DOWNHAM MARKET: Care home’s civic opening

Staff at Downham’s Grange Care Home welcomed borough mayor Geoffrey Wareham to unveil their new purpose-built premises this week.

Mr Wareham was surrounded by staff and residents when he cut the ribbon on Monday.

Manager Helen Forsyth said: “It’s a completely new build. So far we have the north and south wings which we will move into today, then the old building will be demolished to create a garden.

“It’s really exciting. All of our equipment in the new building is state-of-the-art.”

She added: “The residents have all been looking forward to moving into their new home. They’ve spent all week packing their things up.

“They have all been a part of the project.

“They’ve been watching it grow around them and have made sure to keep updated on the progress by the builders.”
