FAKENHAM: Celebrating health and fitness in new drive
A town councillor plans to bring a range of sporting and health groups based in Fakenham together this summer for a celebration of all the town has to offer.
Richard Crook has taken on the voluntary role of village sports coordinator, after being approached by Active Norfolk, and plans to get teams together to take compete against other villages in the Village Games in June.
Mr Crook said: “It’s not about getting people fit, it’s about widening participation by highlighting the sports and wellbeing facilities we have available to us in Fakenham.”
He also hopes to organise a week-long roadshow in the summer to highlight how many opportunities residents and visitors have to take part in various sports throughout the year.
“I want to set up something sustainable that will hopefully help the local clubs and businesses and will bring more people to Fakenham which can only benefit the town.
“I have already identified over 40 clubs, societies and businesses in the town which do great work throughout the year, I hope they will join in and showcase their activities.”
Mr Crook is holding a planning meeting for businesses and organisations who would like to be involved, it is to be held at the Sports Centre in Trap Lane from 6.30pm.
