A counselling and mentoring service for people with mental health problems took to the streets of Lynn to spread its message and recruit new volunteers.

The One to One Project has been running in the town for 28 years but a recent change in funding means they can extend their services to reach more people.

They offer counselling, mentoring and group therapy and clients can be referred by a health professional or can contact the service directly.

Project co-ordinator Hannah Cooper said: “It went really well. We had a nice mix of interest from people who wanted to take up the service and people who wanted to volunteer, who maybe had experience of their own they wanted to share. It was really successful.”

Mentors support clients in their own homes, reaching isolated people and those in rural areas and working towards achieving goals over a six month period.

Counselling is delivered by volunteers who are qualified or in their final year of training as counsellors. They meet with clients for up to a year working at a greater depth for those with more entrenched mental health problems.
