SWAFFHAM: Get fighting fit with badminton or netball

Anyone in the Swaffham area who feels they have tucked into too much turkey or mince pies over Christmas now has the chance to get the new year off to an active start.

Breckland Council has teamed up with Active Norfolk to help residents beat the bulge by offering a range of activities at venues throughout the district.

At Swaffham Leisure Centre in Brandon Road, there will be badminton sessions on Friday evenings, from 8pm to 9.30pm, for eight weeks, starting on February 1. To attend all eight sessions will cost £30.

The same venue will be holding netball sessions on Thursday evenings, from 8pm to 9pm, starting on January 31. Again it will cover eight weeks, but the cost will be £25.

All these fun sessions will be led by experienced instructors and participants must be aged over 18. Group walking sessions at various locations in Norfolk are also planned. Advance booking is essential as numbers are limited.

Lynda Turner, Breckland Council executive member for localism, community and environmental services, said: “2012 was a fantastic year for sport and we want to keep up the momentum.

“You don’t need previous experience to sign on to a course; they are designed to be fun, friendly and informal. This is a great opportunity to get fit, have fun and tick off a new year’s resolution all in one go!”

For more information or to book a course visit www.activenorfolk.org/getinto or call Active Norfolk on 01603 732334 or 732333.
