SWAFFHAM: Red-dy for fundraiser

Swaffham residents can help fight heart disease on February 1 when the British Heart Foundation holds a Rock Up in Red day in the town.
The charity is urging people to kick off national heart month in style by brushing down their red dresses, putting on scarlet socks or painting fiery fingernails to help raise vital cash for the cause, with a suggested donation of £2 a participant.
A BHF spokesman told the Lynn News: “Heart disease is an urgent problem in Norfolk with over 42,200 people in the county suffering with the disease.
“One in three of all deaths are from cardiovascular disease and sadly heart disease kills three times more women than breast cancer.
“But by turning red, you can help this lifesaving charity reduce these grim statistics.”
Alex Mayer, Norfolk’s BHF manager, said: “I know we can rely on the generous-hearted people of Swaffham to join in the British Heart Foundation’s Rock Up in Red day.
“Your support will help us raise vital cash to fund lifesaving equipment, ground breaking research and patient care and help keep more hearts beating in Norfolk.”
Free Rock Up in Red fundraising kits can be ordered on the charity’s website, www.bhf.org.uk/red.
