It may have been soggy but Hilgay Raft Race proved once again to be a great success by raising £4,000 for the Stroke Association.

Downham Rotary Club members have presented the proceeds from the popular event during their last meeting.

A total of 14 teams battled it out on the River Wissey in July while an estimated 800 to 900 people supported the event despite the downfall.

The event is organised by Hilgay butcher Ali Dent along with the Rotary Club.

Once again the cup for the team that attracted most sponsorship will be awarded to Lynn ‘Barmy Binmen’ who raised an excellent £1,500.

The club is always on the lookout for new members and at its last meeting welcomed John Beer and Robin Briscoe.
