A few years ago, Jenny Joseph wrote a poem called Warning, that began: “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat ...”

According to the Red Hat Society, this poem started a kind of revolution and now ladies all over the world can be seen in their red hats embracing life and fun, rather than being held back by age; after all their motto is Live, Love, Laugh.

The Hunstanton chapter, aptly named the Sunny Hunny Belles, held a fashion show at the town’s United Services Club on Thursday of last week, and ladies from local chapters including Fenland Fillies, Ruby Reds, Gadabouts, Barswell Batty Bees, Swaffham Sparklers, Wacky Women and Prima Donna’s joined them.

Queen Honey Bee Margaret said: “It’s great to have ladies joining us from all these Chapters. We at Sunny Hunny Belles love organising events and getting together with other groups; our next big event is a cream tea tour bus to London in June.”

Zena Fisher, Marilyn Turner and Deanne Pritchard from the Sunny Hunny Belles modelled clothes from the spring and summer ranges on sale at M&Co Hunstanton.

Debbie Germon, store manager, said: “The ladies did an amazing job modelling the clothes; they looked fantastic. It is really pleasing to do a fashion show for such an enthusiastic bunch of ladies – the perfect audience.”
