On Thursday of last week, four kayakers braved the Wash to raise money for Cancer Research and Cerebra Brain charities.

Led by Phillip Burton, whose wife Monica organised it, teaching assistant Sammy Clayton, her brother Glen Clayton, a marine engineer, both from Gorleston and Angel Eaglen, a student of engineering who is a Wells lifeboat crew member, took part.

Mrs Burton said: “We hope to raise £400 or more today; as a group we raised over £2,500 last year and we hope to beat that this year.

“We did consider parachuting, but then realised there were just as many opportunities to raise money on local facilities so Les Collinson, who runs the Hunstanton Kayak Company on Hunstanton promenade, was asked support the venture.”

Mr Collinson said, “ I am delighted to help with this worthy cause.”
