Just before 1pm on Monday, the first customers to visit the newly-refurbished post office at Londis in Hunstanton High Street went through the door.

First in line was 75-year-old former nurse Anthony MacDonald who said: “This is lovely, I use this Post Office a lot and it is a real improvement.”

During the nine-day closure for the building works to be completed staff were trained in the latest Post Office systems.

Postmistress Shilpa Odedra said: We are absolutely buzzing; we’ve got a new hearing loop, an open area with a lower counter that is perfect for people who are in wheelchairs to use and a conversation area for any complicated transactions where our customers can sit down.

“This will be particularly useful when we are talking about insurance, investments and savings with our customers and so much better than a counter situation where people can overhear the conversation.”

The main part of the new Post Office will be now be open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5.30pm, but the most exciting new feature for the store is the new out-of-hours combi-counter that offers most of the Post Office Services 7am to 8pm seven days a week.

Mrs Odedra said: “This means we can offer a great service to our customers and it will certainly help with Christmas queues.”
