A hand-painted portrait of a Battle of Waterloo officer from West Norfolk is for sale.
The beautifully framed military miniature is of Major General William Dacres. He died in Hunstanton in 1845.
The miniature is with Lockdales, the auctioneers of Martlesham, near Ipswich.
It has a catalogue guide price of £200 to £220 and goes under the hammer on June 8.
The painting was done early in the Major General’s Army career.
He was a member of the 26th Foot Regiment, in which he rose through the ranks. It is believed to have been painted not long after he became a Foot Soldier Lieutenant in 1769.
The enscription on the back reads: “From the book of campaigns – Ensign Dacres.”
