Patients on the Oxborough and Necton wards at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital received a brimming box of gifts from Rudham ward staff over Christmas.

Now Trish Ralph, manager of Oxborough ward, wants to say a special new year thank-you to Debbie Shales, her opposite number on Rudham Ward, and all her colleagues from the children’s ward who donated gifts in place of swapping staff Christmas cards. She said Necton ward, which specialises in older people’s care, and Oxborough, a respiratory ward, tends to care for elderly patients who don’t always have as many visitors as others.

She said: “I usually try to buy a few little gifts for the patients. But this year Rudham ward staff turned up with a huge box full of presents to hand out. I cried when I saw the gesture.”
