Katelin’s Taylor-made for West Norfolk double

West Norfolk’s younger swimmers have been busy competing in junior leagues again recently.

An enthusiastic team went to Newmarket for the latest round of the Junior Fenland League, under the guidance of team manager Ryan Sykes. Opposition came from Mildenhall, Bottisham, Peterborough and Thetford.

Katelin Taylor was in top form, winning both the 13/under 50m breaststroke and 12/under 50m fly individual events.

Jake Harvey scored maximum points with a win in the 13/under 50m breaststroke.

Harry Sharpe won the 50m 10/under breaststroke, and Rachel Johnson took first place in the 13/under 50m fly.

Many other swimmers recorded personal bests and built up valuable competitive experience.

West Norfolk finished fourth on the night and look forward to the next round in June.

In the Norfolk Junior League, West Norfolk competed at Wymondham for the Copeland Cup. Manager Samuel Chandler led an experienced team against UEA ‘A’ and ‘B’, Norwich Swan, and Diss.

It was a lively and enjoyable evening’s swimming with everyone rising to the occasion.

Robert Addis and Astrid Hubbard won their 50m backstroke races, with Astrid also taking the 50m fly too.

Freddie Laws showed why he is one of the region’s best breaststroke swimmers, winning the 50m 11/u event by eight seconds from his closest rival.

Hard fought second places went to Tobias Oglesby, Harry Sharpe and Rosie Muspratt in their races.

The 4x25m mixed medley relay team of Robert, Astrid, Freddie and Katelin brought together their individual talents to pull off an exciting win towards the end of the evening.

Final result: 1 UEA A 193 points; 2 Swan 175.5; 3 WNSC 121; 4 Diss 90.5.
