Fancy helping your adventurous toddler be a wildlife detective or build a den for teddy?
Then a fun new community group designed to help parents and children get active and exploring their local area could be just the ticket.
A Lynn-based health visiting team, from Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS, is launching the new group for under fives next month.
Set up and organised by local parent volunteers, the Under 5s Out and About group will also give parents and children the chance to meet new friends while spending time having fun outside.
The first three sessions will include outdoor walks to discover local wildlife and ways to get creative with nature.
The group will meet on the first Tuesday of every month between 10.30am and 11.45am at various locations.
The group’s first adventure will be in Reffley Woods on Tuesday, July 7, when youngsters will become wildlife detectives. Children will be finding creepy crawlies and collecting natural objects.
Then on Tuesday, August 4, the group will be building dens for teddies in Reffley Woods and holding a Teddy Bears’ Picnic (bring your own lunch).
On Tuesday, September 1, the group will be returning to Reffley Woods once again to collect and sort natural objects. Parents are asked to bring a bag or bucket for the collection.
Anyone wanting to attend the Reffley Wood events should meet at the Sandy Lane entrance at 10.30am.
The health visiting team has helped set up the community group as a Building Community Capacity project, which use a broad range of approaches to develop strong community-run projects.
Health visitor Laura Kerr said: “We were really keen to work with local parents to create a group for people to have fun, make new friends and learn about their local area.
“The group will always welcome new people and new ideas for activities to do. And planned events will go ahead whatever the weather!”
