It’s hard to refuse the fundraising collections of West Norfolk bin men.

Once again teams from the Lynn collections have been presented with a trophy for raising the most sponsorship in the Hilgay Raft Race.

The group raised more than £1,000 during this year’s event.

The team were among the valiant 15 crews who braved flour storms and a soaking to complete in the popular race, which was held in July.

More than a thousand people went along to support the teams as they raced down the River Wissey.

The event was organised by Hilgay butcher Ali Dent and members of the Rotary Club of Downham.

Mr Dent has praised the team.

He said: “They got about £800 and their company doubled it.

“They did really well and we are grateful.”
