The summer holidays did not stop these dedicated young bookworms from completing a reading challenge.

Gaywood Library celebrated the children who had ploughed their way through more than six books during the six-week holidays.

The reading challenge is an annual event held at libraries across the county and this year’s theme was record breakers.

More than 60 families went along to the library on Sunday when they were presented with their certificates by West Norfolk mayor Colin Manning and his wife Julie, along with county councillor Margaret Wilkinson.

Prizes were also presented to the winners of a recycled materials craft competition. Frederic Low won the eight to 11 years category, with Scarlet Foreman coming second, while Harry Meyer took the title for the four to seven years contest. Community librarian Elena Parkin said: “It was brilliant and one of the best ceremonies we have had yet.”
