Contractors were inspecting a church’s weather cock and lightning conductor on a day when Lynn was lashed by heavy rain.

Reader Tony Howell snapped this shot of contractors slowing making their way up to check the spire at St
Nicholas’ Chapel, ahead of the lightning storms which hit the town later in the day.

Adrian Parker, chairman of the chapel’s Friends’ Group, said the weather cock had been reported to be stuck.

Contractors have been busy for more than a year in transforming the church into a modern cultural venue.

Work on the chapel began last July after a Heritage Lottery grant to cover most of the £2.7 million cost was secured.

Solar panels, low energy heating, toilet and kitchen facilities have been installed.

The chapel is hoped to re-open in September when a musical event will be held.
