Doors will be closing for the final time at a Lynn home improvement store in June.
Homebase will be shutting its store in the Pierpoint Retail Park, on the Hardwick Industrial Estate, on Saturday, June 13.
Last year its parent company, Home Retail Group, announced plans to reduce its 323 Homebase stores by 25 per cent as a number were unprofitable.
News of the closure has been met with disappointment.
A statement from the Home Retail group says: “Following a consultation, Homebase can confirm that its store on the Pierpoint Retail Park will close on June 13.
“We are continuing to support colleagues and we are working with them to find alternative employment within and outside of Home Retail Group.”
Leader of West Norfolk Council Nick Daubney expressed his sorrow at the closure but says the future is still looking good for Lynn.
He said: “I am very sorry to hear this. They have been part of the Lynn scene for many years and were in Norfolk Street under the Texas Home Store brand. The world is changing and there is more and more competition.
“The future is looking bright for Lynn. Retail businesses seem to be consistently reporting more activity and the footfall figures are increasing. There are more and more retail inquiries regarding Lynn.
“Given the times we are in, I am very encouraged by that but I am sorry to hear of Homebase.”
Twitter follower Gavin @firemansonic tweeted to 10 Downing Street: “Another store closes in our town!Economy’s growing? #pulltheotherleg.”
