A man pushed over his ex-partner after going to her home to say goodnight to their children, a court heard.

Michael Ellwood, 23, of Burney Road, South Lynn, was given a 12 month community order, plus a 12 month restraining order, when he appeared before magistrates on Friday.

He had pleaded guilty to a single charge of assault at an earlier hearing.

The incident happened on the evening of June 8 after Ellwood went to the woman’s home to see their children before they went to bed.

But the court was told that, after one of them had gone upstairs, Ellwood became abusive and pushed the woman back, causing her to fall back onto the stairs.

She also claimed that Ellwood slapped her across the forehead, though he denied it when he was interviewed by police the next day.

However, he did admit to pushing her during an argument.

In addition to the community order, Ellwood was ordered to pay £50 compensation to his victim, plus £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
