A car owner was left with a bill for hundreds of pounds of repairs after it was badly damaged by a drunk Lynn man.

Magistrates heard that Tapiwa Mutukudzi, 34, of Horton Road, Springwood, attacked the vehicle while it was parked at the Gaywood Churchrooms over the August bank holiday weekend.

Although his blood and a set of keys belonging to him were found in the car, Mutukudzi told police he could not remember what had happened.

Mitigating at Thursday’s hearing, solicitor George Sorrell said: “Alcohol is a very big problem in his life.”

Magistrates gave him a 12 month community order with 20 days of rehabilitation activity and told him to pay £500 compensation to cover the estimated cost of repairs.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
