Borough mayor Barry Ayres attended a dinner of the Rotary Club of King’s Lynn and their ladies at Middleton Golf Club on Monday of last week.
Also in attendance was past district governor Bill Redmayne.
Mr Ayres was welcomed by president Bob Sharp and he responded with a brief address before listening to the principal speaker of the evening, Sally Edwards, oncologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital specialising in prostate cancer, who gave a sobering but informative talk on the diagnosis and present day thinking on treatment of the disease, emphasising the importance early testing for men of all ages.
Whilst the number of men diagnosed with the disease increases year on year, the survival rate in now better than it ever has been and in Ms Edwards words “If you are unfortunate enough to develop prostate cancer, now is possiby the best time ever.”
She was thanked by club senior cice president, Keith Boyce.
