Winner of the title of Miss British Beauty Curve Champion is Emily Blake, of North Lynn, who said the contest sends out a positive message for women to be proud of themselves.

Emily, 24, who represented Norfolk in the competition, was crowned champion, beating 29 other contestants, at the finals of the contest held at The Lost Theatre in Wandsworth on Sunday.

She said: “I entered months ago but I did not think about the possibility of winning. I took part in Miss Universe Norfolk last year. I had lost weight – four stones – and it was a way of celebrating that and still being a size 16.

“I am quite happy how I am and when I saw the curve competition, I thought I would enter. I think the whole competition tells people that they should embrace what they have. It aims to empower women, making them feel confident whatever their shape and size. We are all different and there is no set way in which a woman should look.”

For the contest, Emily was interviewed and won the swimwear round, when she modelled a bikini, and also the eveningwear section. The other round was for fashionwear.

As winner, she collected a cash prize, a “gorgeous” crown, jewellery, designer bag and a photoshoot. She will also be a judge on the panel at next year’s event.

“I am hoping this will open doors for me in the future,” said Emily, a graduate from the University of Bedfordshire in media performance, who is a freelance presenter and a former pupil of Gaywood Park High School and also Springwood Sixth Form Centre.

She hosts events, does promotional work, and also works in schools across the UK giving study skills workshops. “The main aim to get across is that learning can be fun,” she said.

Recently she has been working on a programme which she will present on the TV Community Channel, which features the King’s Lynn Allotment Community Project, based in The Walks and Hunstanton’s Cafe Blah Blah when, there was a challenge to make the best latte.

The programme is due to be aired in a couple of months’ time.
