Two West Norfolk businesses have secured the future of one of the largest free outdoor music festivals in Europe after offering to replace the stage.
An appeal by Festival Too chairman Bridget Nurse in last Friday’s Lynn News is believed to have sparked the donation after fears the future of the festival was in jeopardy.
She said: “I have yet to confirm the details, but a local company have offered to replace our two broken trailers and another company has offered to build the replacement stage for us during the winter, and to store it for us as well!”
The appeal came after festival organisers discovered the stage, which is built upon two 15-year-old lorries, was damaged beyond repair and would cost up to £20,000 to replace, including re-flooring and scaffolding costs.
The non-profit event has attacted thousands to this year’s event, with The Vamps gig drawing a crowd of 13,000 but leaving only £2,500 in the donation buckets, disappointing organisers who ask that audiences make an individual donation of just £1.
Mrs Nurse added: “It’s quite nice to think that people have seen how desperate we are for help and have rallied round to support Festival Too.
“Now we just need to encourage more of this from sponsors to keep to festival going.”
Festival Too has been running for 30 years of free music and entertainment in the town, featuring performances from the likes of The Vamps, Odyssey, Phats and Small and Gabrielle playing over three weekends this year.
With the event proving a huge success, the team of volunteers behind the festival want to remind audiences that every penny raised at this year’s event going towards staging next year’s performances.
Organisers are asking that any businesses not already backing the festival get involved by downloading a sponsorship form from the website, and for those who have enjoyed the festival this year to donate just a little through the crowdfunding page on the website.
