A supermarket chain is holding talks with companies interested in taking on a hotel and car showroom on its new £40 million development in Lynn.

Tesco has started work on building its new superstore and Campbells Meadow retail park on the Hardwick Road site.

The chain was granted permission by West Norfolk Council to also construct a Dobbie’s garden centre, which is part of the Tesco group, offices, a hotel and car showroom.

A company spokesman is hoping that the store will be open next year.

He said: “Tesco is really pleased with the progress we have been making and can confirm the hotel and car showroom are in the scheme.

“We are in early discussions with a number of parties.”

The company paid £840,000 for improvements to the area as part of its planning permission.

The money is earmarked for certain areas but the council does not yet have any firm details on these projects.

Tesco paid £200,000 for environmental enhancements, including signage and improving shop fronts, £500,000 towards bus station improvements, such as a revised layout and better pedestrian links with the railway station, £90,000 to enhance or relocate the markets and £50,000 towards town centre promotion.
