Have your say

So the last time I spoke to you I was getting ready to run Race For Life! Well, I say run, I managed about the last 100m at full sprint, but

I mean did you feel the heat that day? My cousin Rebecca managed though, and came 6th! I can’t even comprehend coming in the top 50, never mind the top 10.

However it was all about raising money, and I managed to raise a whopping £175, which is more than I could ever have hoped to have raised. It was so inspirational to see so many women taking part for their loved ones, some still around, some who weren’t. I would seriously recommend it to anyone, it’s such an emotional experience, but it all goes to such a good cause.

Anyway, moving on to the next milestone in my life, it’s my birthday in a few days! It always makes me wonder whether birthdays get better as you get older. My favourite birthday was my 18th, where I had a day filled with fun with my family, and saw the sun go down with my friends. My parents hired out a karaoke machine, which my dad hogged a majority of the time. I will never be able to listen to All That She Wants by Ace of Base in the same way again.

The furthest memory I have of a birthday was my 4th birthday party, where I had a Mcdonald’s birthday, and I was crying for whatever reason (I was always crying as a kid) and so they let me through to the back to make my own ice cream, which was pretty awesome.

Birthdays have always been quite a big deal in my family, so I’m quite sad to know I’ll be waking up on my own for this one for the first ever time. My boyfriend John is at work, so I just have this image in my head of me holding a lone cupcake with one candle in singing ‘happy birthday to me…’

Luckily my mum has organised a spa day for us so that feeling shouldn’t last too long! I’m up for being pampered all day, and we’ll hopefully be going for a nice meal in the evening so I’ll feel pretty spoilt.

The next thing to think about though is what I actually want. I haven’t asked for anything yet, so let’s hope it’s not just socks and shower gel!

So if you see me Friday (I’ll probably be wearing a big badge!) feel free to say happy birthday, I’ll be the one with the big smile on my face!
