With just a few days to go until the deadline for voter registration ahead of next month’s elections, council officials have urged residents to ensure they can have their say.

People have until this Monday to register ahead of the May 7 polls.

Mary Colangelo, West Norfolk Council’s electoral services manager, said: “With the introduction of Individual Electoral Registration last year, it is now everyone’s individual responsibility to ensure that they have registered to vote.

“It only takes a few minutes to register online by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. When completing your registration you will need to provide your date of birth, address and National Insurance number.

“If you are not registered, you won’t be able to take part in the forthcoming elections.”

Meanwhile, the deadline for applications for postal ballots expires this Tuesday, April 21, at 5pm. The deadline for applications for a proxy vote is next Tuesday, April 28, at the same time.
