The Lynnsport leisure centre has re-opened to the public following an incident at the site on Monday night.
The Greenpark Avenue complex was closed yesterday as repairs were carried out, but opened this morning as usual.
Simon McKenna, chief executive of the centre’s operators, Alive Leisure, said: “I would like to thank our staff in the prompt and efficient handling of this incident and also many thanks to our customer for their patience and understanding during this time.”
Fire crews were called to the site at around 7.30pm on Monday after what fire service chiefs described as a “small” blaze in an electrical plant room. They spent just over an hour at the scene
Eyewitnesses used social media to report seeing people outside the centre wrapped in foil blankets while the incident was resolved.
Lynnsport officials said the incident related to overheating electrical cables, which then activated the fire alarm.
The statement added: “There was no damage to the building or plant but some cables needed to be replaced.
“The loss of power resulted in the closure of the facility for the rest of the evening and all day Tuesday. New parts were sourced and replaced and the facility opened 6.30 am Wednesday morning as normal.”
