Proposals to move the South Wootton Post Office have been scrapped, company officials have announced this morning, Friday, May 23.
The plan to relocate the business at the Grange Stores in Dawnay Avenue, Gaywood, had provoked fierce opposition from local community leaders and residents.
And, in a statement issued shortly before 8am today, the company said it had listened to public opinion, which saw nearly 400 people take part in a public consultation on the scheme.
Will Russell, the company’s regional network manager, said: “After careful consideration of all relevant factors, including the responses we received as part of the consultation process and the concerns raised by Consumer Futures, Post Office Ltd has decided not to proceed with the proposed move.”
The decision means that Post Office services will remain at the current Nursery Lane site for the time being. Further consultations would take place if any future relocation plan is brought forward.
And the company said there was public support for the plans to expand services and opening hours as part of the relocation plan.
