£1k raised from walk for QEH
A SPONSORED walk organised by a determined mum has raised more than £1,000 for the children's ward at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The walk, from Hunstanton seafront to South Wootton, was organised by Louise Leake, of Gaskell Way, Reffley, to thank staff on the Rudham ward.
Ms Leake's son Gianni (9) was treated for a range of serious medical problems at the hospital when he was younger and his amazing survival featured in the Lynn News in 2001.
Around 12 friends, including fellow organiser Paula Reed, of the Grange Estate, completed the walk in five hours on Sunday, finishing at the New Inn in Wootton Road.
Ms Leake, who was joined on the day by fianc Chris Mallott and sister Emily-Jane Keating, said: "Everyone did really well – we all succeeded and no-one pulled out. We had sandwiches at the New Inn, where we also collected a further 60.
"We hoped to raise around 500 this year and we have at least doubled that, perhaps even tripled it.
"Gianni was in and out of hospital and we nearly lost him around ten times. We said we would do something every year to thank the ward and we feel we owe them.
"We will carry on and hope to do a sponsored cycle ride around Hunstanton next year – hopefully covering around 40 miles."
