£70,000 facelift for Hunstanton toilets
A KEY set of toilets in Hunstanton is getting a £70,000 facelift which it is hoped will transform it into top-quality award-winning condition.
Work is already well under way on the Central Promenade toilets, situated close to the Oasis Leisure Centre and only a stone's throw from the seafront.
The toilets – thought to be the largest block in the borough – were in line for a face-lift as part of a three-year West Norfolk Council plan to improve toilet facilities across the area.
The refurbishment work, which includes new cubicles, porcelain fittings and tiles, began last month and is due to be finished by Easter.
West Norfolk Council environment portfolio holder Brian Long went along to the toilet block on Wednesday to see for himself how work was progressing.
He was pleased to say that new facilities for gents, ladies and the disabled were all in the pipeline, and that there would be a new, separate 24-hour facility in future.
"The toilets were suffering from ageing," said Mr Long. He said that new disabled facilities and the 24-hour facility should be available within a month. It was hoped the ladies' then gents' toilets would be finished not long after that.
Mr Long hopes that the toilets will be stunning when finished and that they might even score a Loo of the Year four-star rating award, such as the one given to Hunstanton Bus Station's toilets which were refurbished last year and had previously been described as "filthy".
