£941,000 VAT fraud hearing
THE joint owners of a Swaffham-based employment agency appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing in connection with an alleged £941,000 VAT fraud.
Staffhire owners Peter Wing (52), of Butlers Barn, Meadow Road, Narborough, and Amanda Gilding (33), of 75 The Oaklands, Swaffham, are accused of conspiracy to defraud Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs between September 2002 and October 2005.
They appeared with four other co-defendants, Grant Hudson (48), from Glossop, Derbyshire, Robert Peace (51), of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Michael Cooper (51), of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and Michael Bignell (56), from Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
All were given conditional bail and are due to appear at the Norwich court again on December 14 for a plea and management hearing. Under the conditions, Mr Wing and Mr Cooper have to inform the prosecutors at least 48 hours before leaving the country.
Mr Wing is chairman of Swaffham Town Football Club and has been involved in running several businesses in the town.
