2,000 years of marriage for WN couples
WEST Norfolk couples who share their diamond wedding anniversary year with The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated in style when they were VIP guests at a special civic reception in Lynn.
Around 30 couples attended a service of thanksgiving at St Margaret's Church before being treated to a wedding breakfast at the Town Hall, hosted by Borough Mayor Kathy Mellish, where a message of greeting from The Queen was read out by Norfolk's Lord Lieutenant Richard Jewson.
The menu, which included Sole Edinburgh and Regal Chicken, was very similar to that chosen by the then Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip for their wedding breakfast in 1947. A special diamond wedding cake was provided by the specialist cake shop Celebration, in Gaywood.
In her speech, the Mayor said there was approaching 2,000 years of marriage present in the room, which was a tribute to the stamina of the couples, as was the fact that everyone who had accepted the invitation had been well enough to attend.
Mrs Mellish said she was thrilled to see the pleasure the celebration had given people.
