200 students graduate from CoWA

MORE than 200 students have graduated from Lynn's College of West Anglia this year.

Many of the new graduates joined a midday parade from Lynn Town Hall along High Street, Norfolk Street and Chapel Street to St Nicholas' Chapel on Friday.

At the chapel, they were joined by members of their families for the graduation ceremony, one of the most important dates in the college calendar.

College principal David Pomfret welcomed the graduates, governors and guests and said: "Our commitment to higher education has never been stronger. We want to raise aspirations, improve skills and the area and provide greater opportunities for everyone."

Mr Pomfret said the college worked in partnership with the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to offer an ever-widening range of courses.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Mr Mike Thorne, told the graduates: "Your hard work and commitment have paid off. You should be extremely proud of what you have achieved."

This year's Higher Education student of the year, Daniel Frappell, graduated with first class honours in BSC Computer Science. He started at the college in 2004 on the National Diploma in IT Practitioners course, going on to obtain three distinctions while working as a night porter. Daniel, of Didlington, near Brandon, now works as an IT lecturer at the college.
