24 new homes on way for Terrington?

A NEW 24-home community complete with its own café, shop, laundry and cinema could be built on the former Suttons Horticulture site in Terrington St Clement.

An outline planning application has been lodged with West Norfolk Council for an "assisted living community" with a range of facilities at Church Farm in Northgate Way.

The development, which will have staff including a matron on call 24 hours a day, will be aimed at people aged around 50 who need care and medical support, including those who are disabled.

Suttons moved out of the Terrington site at the beginning of last year and claimed its closure was a direct result of its redevelopment plans for the village being repeatedly blocked.

The company put forward planning applications to build houses on the site in 2005 and 2006, but both were turned down amid local opposition despite its promises to bring new jobs and facilities to the village.

A new company called Liberty Living Care, directed by Mrs Belinda Sutton, has made the latest planning application which aims to provide a safe and secure environment while allowing residents to maintain their independence.

As well as the new "barn style" homes, there are also plans to extend Church Farmhouse, already on the site, to provide an apartment for the matron, a three-bed nursing ward, consultation room for visiting doctors, two administration offices, a function room, small cinema, caf, laundry, kitchen and shop.

The community would employ at least seven members of staff, ranging from a receptionist and administrators to a cook and groundsmen. The application can be viewed and commented on at www.west-norfolk.gov.uk
