60 firefighters battle Lynn blaze

FIREFIGHTERS from across west Norfolk and beyond battled a blaze sparked in a 40ft high mound of hundreds of tonnes of waste wood at a recycling plant on Monday night.

More than 60 firefighters were called to Singh waste transfer centre on Saddlebow Industrial Estate when what turned into a giant bonfire began at around 6.50pm on Fireworks Night.

Firefighters from stations including Lynn, Sandringham, Heacham, Fakenham, Terrington and Hethersett battled to keep the flames away from nearby buildings and the Fleet Timber woodyard and were on scene damping down until 8am this morning.

Singh site manager Karl Chapman said it was the second year running the firm had been hit by fire on Bonfire Night.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
