777 tested for drink-driving at Christmas
MOTORISTS continued to ignore police drink-drive messages over the festive period, resulting in 44 arrests in West Norfolk, figures just released show.
A total of 777 drivers were pulled over for roadside tests in December and six per cent either tested positive or refused to give a sample.
PC Michael Edney, Norfolk’s Casualty Reduction Officer, said: “Drink-driving ruins lives yet there are still a small group of individuals who continue to refuse to listen to our message, risking their own lives and also other innocent road users.
“The Christmas campaign may be over but motorists should remember that our enforcement will continue throughout 2008.
“The simple answer for all drivers is not to drink any alcohol and then drive. That’s the sensible way to avoid becoming a statistic.”
Elsewhere in the county a total of 3,623 motorists were pulled over during December and 70 arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
