91-yr-old died after fall at home

AN ELDERLY woman who suffered a fractured thigh bone in a fall at a nursing home died just under a month later from pneumonia, a Lynn inquest was told.

Greater Norfolk coroner William Armstrong recorded that Florence Lawson (91), of Shouldham Hall nursing home in Shouldham, died there on July 13 from natural causes contributed to by the fracture.

Shouldham Hall manager Glynis Stratford told the inquest that Mrs Lawson, who had been there about a year, suffered from dementia, limited mobility and diabetes.

On June 18 staff found her on the floor near her room. She had a grazed left elbow and was taken to bed. No evidence of discomfort was seen in routine checks that night, but the following day she was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital where the fracture was discovered. This was repaired with a screw and she returned to the home about ten days later.

The coroner said Mrs Lawson was not in good health and the family were happy with the care she received at Shouldham Hall.
