All ages support event at Hunstanton
UP to 300 people gathered at Hunstanton's windswept clifftop war memorial for this year's two-minute silence and wreath-laying ceremony.
The chairman of Hunstanton and District Royal British Legion, Roy Evans, praised the level of support from all age groups and said: "I think there were more people at the war memorial than we have ever had before."
He believed the encouraging turnout was partly due to a change in the order of proceedings meaning the annual church service followed instead of preceded the war memorial ceremony.
It was also significant that Remembrance Sunday fell on the 11th day of the 11th month. "I'm sure that fetched more people out," he said.
The ceremony was preceded by a procession from the United Services Club led by the Mayor of Hunstanton, Councillor Richard Bird. "The rain stopped for the parade but it was windy for the standard bearers," said Mr Evans.
He thanked holiday centre owner Mr Richard Searle for allowing the centre's land-train to take older and frailer veterans and residents from the memorial to the church.
He added: "It's not only important that we parade and remember the past. We are also remembering what is happening now. That's the poignant thing and that will help us get the support of younger people."
