Awards for local language lessons
LITHUANIAN employees who have been working during the day and studying in the evenings to improve their English, received certificates for their efforts on Thursday.
All employed by Hargreaves Plants at Common Farm, West Bilney, they have completed a 20-week English for speakers of other languages course at the Holbeach campus of the University of Lincoln.
Skills for Life co-ordinator, Rachel Bowser, explained that the City and Guilds adult literacy entry level award was a nationally-recognised certificate and the students had worked hard to achieve it.
"It was not an easy task," she said. "They were working during the day and they live at Lynn, but they made the effort to travel to Holbeach in the evenings to study. In fact, their attendance was the best we have ever had."
Shaun Gibbons, a manager for Lincolnshire-based Hargreaves, said that the certificate will not only help them at work but also enable them to integrate more fully into the local community.
The students received their certificates at Common Farm where they are employed sorting strawberry plants.
