Better CCTV for Swaffham?

SWAFFHAM'S out-dated security cameras could be in line for a revamp after Breckland Council agreed to invest in a new CCTV system.

Breckland has a 62-camera network operating in five market towns which has not been upgraded since its installation 12 years ago.

The council has decided to replace the system with digital technology which will provide higher-quality images, and equipment in the 24-hour CCTV control room, based in Thetford, is also set to be upgraded.

Cabinet members agreed to spend an initial 25,000.

The council could also reduce the number of fixed cameras in urban areas and introduce mobile cameras, which could go out and about, helping to reduce crime.
