Bid for West Lynn youth group

AN appeal is being made for volunteers to help get a youth club off the ground in West Lynn.

The idea is to create something similar to the club set up in South Lynn in July last year, which has risen from 15 to 120 members.

But with that club also vying for new adult volunteers to keep it thriving, much more help is needed.

Police Community Support Officer Jo Rew, of South and West Lynn Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "When young people congregate on corners it can look intimidating, but often they just want somewhere to hang around and chat to each other. If they had a safe environment to do that it would be fantastic for West Lynn.

"It will be up to them to say what they want and we can help them apply for grants to create it."

PCSO Rew said the idea for a West Lynn youth club was first raised at a South and West Lynn Community Action Group meeting in November.

She said it would probably be open to children aged around seven to 13 and could meet at the social club, in St Peters Road, but despite a few people being willing to help, more were needed before it could launch.

West Lynn parents Natarli (27) and Ian (38) Richardson, of Kempe Road, are keen to be involved. Mrs Richardson, who has three children – Freya (five), Jessica (two) and William (three months), said: "We moved to the village from Fairstead in August and I was shocked because there is nothing for kids to do.

"I think it's really important because the old people are all saying kids are doing this and that, but there is nothing for them, so they are going to look for things to do which might be seen as mischief."
