'Bob' does the job for Neil

FAMILY and friends of a young Pott Row man who died from a heart condition recently raised £533 for a special unit at the London hospital where he was treated.

As the Lynn News reported at the time, Neil Pearman died at the London Heart Hospital, aged 23, on October 30 last year after being admitted with a suspected chest infection.

He was born with the great arteries to his heart the wrong way round and a hole in his heart, and had undergone operations since he was just five-months-old.

In his 20s, he suffered endocarditis, an infection affecting the heart valves. But he never let his heart problems stand in the way of his interest in sport and helping other people.

On Sunday, August 12, Neil’s father, Gary, and his brother, Mark, joined Bob’s First Time Driving School of Lynn’s crew in the Downham Water Festival dragon boat racing event.

They and the other crew members, driving instructors Paul Barrett and Sue Kaye, and Alun and Gavin Price, Jade Houlton, Daniel Raven, Charlie Long, Ian Brown and Stevo Corrigan, were all sponsored to raise money for the Grown-up Congenital Heart (GUCH) Unit at the London hospital.

Last Thursday, at Templemead on Gaywood’s Reffley Estate, Mr Barrett presented the 533 cheque to Mark Pearman, whose family will be taking it to the GUCH Unit, and thanked everyone who joined the driving school’s crew for their support.

In turn, the Pearman family thanked the driving school and all the crew members, and the people who sponsored them, for their support to the GUCH Unit.
