Bogus copper in Downham

AN elderly woman was robbed in her own home on New Year's Eve when a bogus policeman knocked at her door claiming he was investigating a burglary in the area.

The householder challenged the man's story but he forced his way into her home, knocking her to the floor on his way and fled with her handbag.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area of the woman's home in Bexwell Road, Downham, when the attack happened at around 3pm.

The offender was white and aged between 22 and 25 years old.

Police have reminded householders genuine officers should produce a valid picture warrant card as proof of identification and be happy to wait outside whilst their identification is confirmed with the police control room on 0845 456 4567.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact DC Ian Young at Downham police station on 0845 456 4567.
