BREAKING NEWS: Three in hospital after chemical leak at factory
Fire and Ambulance crews on the scene of an incident at BESPAK on the North Lynn Industrial Estate.
Three men have been taken to hospital following a chemical leak at a factory in North Lynn this evening.
Emergency crews were called to Bespak on Bergen Way just before 6.45pm following reports of the leak, which is believed to be of a substance called formaldehyde, which is a gas at room temperature. The site was evacuated.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said the affected men had been given oxygen at the scene before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. However, their conditions are not thought to be serious.
Firefighters from Lynn and Terrington St Clement, as well as a specialist chemical unit, were called to the scene.
A Norfolk Fire Service spokesman told the Lynn News that the situation was being contained and that crews on the ground were pleased with how their operations were progressing.
She added that there was no threat to public safety.
Meanwhile, a Norfolk Police spokesman said the force had been notified of the incident, but were stood down before arriving at the scene.
