Burner battle is a legal David v Goliath

King's Lynn Anti Incinerator - Solicitor Carla Goodyear of Hayes and Storr.

Anti-incinerator campaigners will have youth and passion at the forefront of their David and Goliath-style legal fight starting today.

Carla Goodyear, of Hayes and Storr Solicitors in Lynn, has been appointed at the 11th hour to present the case on behalf of the King’s Lynn Without Incineration group (KLWIN) during the forthcoming public inquiry.

Miss Goodyear, 27, said she felt very passionately about the issue. “I am a local lawyer and live locally and will be as affected as other residents.”

The group lost its former legal representative, barrister Tim Leader, due to changes and uncertainty relating to the timetable for the inquiry, which is expected to last eight weeks.

Hayes and Storr stepped into the breach through one of its partners, Margaret Taylor, a supporter of KLWIN since its early days.

She said: “KLWIN phoned me in the middle of last week and came to talk to us. We as a partnership then made the decision that, even though they have not got deep pockets, this was something we could commit ourselves to.”

KLWIN spokesman Mike Knights said members were very grateful to Hayes and Storr.

“The odds have always been stacked in favour of Cory Wheelabrator and Norfolk County Council. When we lost our advocate, we were very concerned that we were going to be silenced. We believe that we have the stronger arguments and this gives us hope that our arguments will be properly considered.”

Hayes and Storr also offered very generous terms.

Mr Knights said: “Carla faces a huge challenge with QCs representing Norfolk County Council and Cory Wheelabrator having had over seven months to prepare.”

Miss Goodyear said: “We have been burning the midnight oil to try to get our heads round some very complex information. We are ready and willing, keen and eager to put forward the arguments of behalf of KLWIN.”
