Cadet's march to victory
A LYNN air cadet squadron has been presented with a top RAF award in a competition for the most innovative fundraising idea.
Members of the 42(F) (King's Lynn) ATC Squadron were sponsored for a 16-mile Nijmegan-style march around footpaths around the town to raise money for the RAF Association.
The Nijmegan march centres on the oldest town in Holland and has been held for around 100 years.
It was designed by the military to increase the marching and weight-carrying capacity of soldiers and now attracts some 40,000 entrants who complete a 30-mile march each day for four consecutive days.
The Lynn cadets modified the march for their fundraising efforts which saw the squadron named the Top Flight winner in the Central and East region of the ATC.
A spokesman for the cadets taking part said: "For more than 60 years the RAF Association has helped and supported serving and retired members of the RAF and their families. As an air cadet I feel it is my duty to help them continue to provide care and support – support which my friends and I may one day rely on."
One of the competition judges, retired Warrant Officer Griff Griffiths, also membership manager at RAFA, said: "The standard of entries for Top Flight were excellent this year.
"I would like to thank the cadet squadrons for all the hard work they put in. There were some really great ideas this year."
