Cannabis accused won £26,980 playing poker, court told

THE trial of five Vietnamese defendants accused of being involved with a cannabis factory in North Lynn resumed at the crown court yesterday.

Agieng Nung (51), Luan Van Phan (42), Thi Cam Van Vu (32), all from Wymondham; Mai Anh Trinh (21), of London, and Hoang Hoi Dao (53), of no fixed address, are all accused of conspiring to produce cannabis, conspiring to launder the proceeds of crime and conspiring to launder criminal property.

Mr Dao and Ms Trinh are accused of obtaining a money transfer by deception in connection with the purchase of The Lodge, in North Lynn's Crossbank Road, a bungalow which was converted for intensive production of the drug.

Mr Phan faces a similar charge in relation to The Laurels, a property in Ferry Road, West Lynn, with Mr Nung and Mr Dao facing the same charges involving properties in Norwich and London.

Ms Trinh is also charged with being concerned in the unlawful production of cannabis by another.

Yesterday Lynn Crown Court heard evidence that Mr Nung had been a frequent visitor to a casino in Yarmouth, where, over the course of nearly two years, he made a net gain of 4,884.

He also tasted victory at a European poker tournament in London, where he won 26,980.

The court then heard evidence from mortgage broker Diane Law, who helped Mr Phan in his attempts to gain a 204,000 mortgage to buy The Laurels.

She said that during the application process he listed his occupation as a self-employed builder with an income of 70,772.

The case continues.
