Castle Acre raises CIN funds - twice!
CASTLE Acre residents put their hands in their pockets twice for this year's Children In Need appeal.
Villagers responded generously after masked raiders stole a CIN donation box from the Spar store and post office during an armed robbery on November 21.
Store and post office assistant Sue Forster, who collected the money, was dismayed by the loss to the charity.
She arranged a horseback parade and collection around the village on Saturday. Colleagues and friends rallied round and a total of 524.76 was raised.
Mrs Forster (55), said: "It was brilliant. It really was. I was so proud of everyone."
Mrs Forster and her granddaughter, Caitlin (11), dressed as Woody and Jessie from the film, Toy Story, for the occasion. Other supporters dressed as festive characters and one pony masqueraded as a reindeer.
Mrs Forster said: "We went round the pubs and cafs and gatecrashed a lunch in the WI Hall. I would like to thank Melanie and Alice White, Sue Pinner, Sophie and her friend, George, who brought a pony down, and the clown, whose name I don't know."
She also thanked everyone who contributed to the collection, saying: "A lot of people gave twice and they were more generous the second time."
The collection was such a success that Mrs Forster is now hoping to hold another. "Hopefully, we will do it again next year," she said.
