Celebrity to open Thornham games area
A GUEST celebrity has been lined up to officially open Thornham's new multi-use games area.
In the business part of Thornham Parish Council's meeting Cllr Antony Needham reported on progress planning the official MUGA opening ceremony.
A guest celebrity had been confirmed, invitations were being prepared, a marquee booked, refreshments organised and it was planned to have a children's five-a-side football match.
The event, taking place on Saturday, April 18, at 2.30pm, would be open to all the village.
Routine business was largely the order of the day for February's well-attended meeting of the council.
In the open session of the meeting a number of parishioners' questions were answered.
It was confirmed that borough planning enforcement officers would be checking the new development in front of the village bowling green to ensure its compliance with the application.
There is widespread concern that the building is out of scale with surrounding properties and could set a precedent for overlarge building development in the village.
Volunteers were requested who would be willing to pass on Floodline warnings from the Environment Agency to neighbouring properties in the village in the event of an emergency.
Names can be given to the chairman, Cllr Wendy Brooks.
Cllr Milner was unable to give news re the appointment of a rector for the six parishes but said that a meeting with the Bishop of Lynn taking place might resolve the matter.
Cllr Brooks confirmed that an increase to 800 had been marked out in the precept for maintenance of All Saints' churchyard.
Cllr Milner said that the programme for the summer Music in Country Churches concerts at All Saints had now been agreed and would be published in March.
Bookings can be made by telephone to 01603-628319 from the beginning of June.
POTHOLES
Potholes in Choseley Road reported at the last parish meeting have not yet been repaired by highways and the recent bad weather has made the condition of the road worse.
At least six large holes present a danger to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians a parishioner warned. The clerk will refer again to Highways department.
A site meeting with Anglian Water had taken place and the playing field committee were now clear about what they were required to do to co-ordinate with the water supply connection.
Quotations would be obtained for cutting the supply trench through the field. Noticeboards with key information are being prepared for the field.
Speaking from the floor on behalf of the Parish plan group, Mr Joe Davies said that the final draft was being circulated to the group for consideration and funding to pay printing costs was being sought.
It was still the intention to circulate the questionnaire before Easter.
It was agreed that one of the parish's seven dog litter bins would be better used if sited along the permissive path by the A149 adjacent to the playing field.
Following local consultation the clerk will arrange for the licence.Cllr Brooks noted that the council were awaiting a response from the RSPB who were advising re the weed-choked pond, known locally as Monty's Pit.
Unless it could be cleared soon work might have to be delayed if coots or moorhen nested on the site.
The clerk reported a number of routine payments for street lighting and grass cutting had been made and that the final payment from the borough council for the MUGA had been received.
Next meeting of the parish council will be on Wednesday, March 11, 7pm, the Drill Hall.
