SUPPORTERS of a prominent West Norfolk charity have presented more than £4,000 to the cause at their annual garden party.

Tony and Josette Simpson hosted the annual West Norfolk Mencap garden party at their home in Great Massingham on Sunday.

The event, which coincides with National Disabilities Week, was also held in memory of their daughter, Tina Swann, who died in December of last year.

West Norfolk Mencap chairman Peter Brown was delighted with the success of the event.

He said: “When we started to set up the garden party in the morning we had torrential rain.

“However, when it opened in the afternoon the sun came out in more ways than one.”

And Mr Brown was on hand to accept two sizeable cheques on behalf of the charity.

John Goddard chose the group as his charity for his year as captain of Swaffham Golf Club.

A regular guest at the garden party where he helps with the barbecue, he handed over a £2,000 cheque for the proceeds from events held throughout his captaincy.

Another donation of £2,026, was presented by Ian Stockwell on behalf of the West Norfolk Parent Carer Association.

The organisation is currently being wound up and decided to give the residual funds left over to Mencap at the garden party,
