Charity benefits from Stewart's 60th

LEUKAEMIA Research has received a £565 boost from a Swaffham man who lost his brother to this cancer of the bone marrow and white blood cells 16 months ago.

Stewart Green, who runs Swaffham Architectural Ltd and lives at Thurne House, Shouldham Lane, asked family and friends to make donations to the charity instead of buying him presents for his 60th birthday on March 2.

He was devastated when his brother, Paul (56), who also lived in Swaffham, died from leukaemia at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital in February last year despite receiving chemotherapy and various other treatments at that hospital and at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Mr Green had a 60th birthday party at Swaffham's George Hotel on March 7, with a disco and hog roast.

More than 100 people attended and the money he received in donations that night and subsequently was handed over to a Leukaemia Research representative at the Lynn hospital last Monday.
